On this page you can submit ideas for future official Elftown competitions. Ideally, competitions should encourage Elftowners to create new works of art, so try to use as much detail as you can when submitting. This page takes suggestions for official competitions, which are hosted by the Council. If you are interested in hosting (or advertising) your own personal contest then check out art contests, writing contests, photo contests and MC. |

2005-12-22 [Melocrie]: Maybe a subject for a story writing contest could be "Classic Fairytales", like with the classic characters: witches who brew in cauldrons, gnomes who work hard in mines, gaints that need to be defeated, dragons guarding gold and so on. And then perhaps, another contest could follow, to draw an illustration of that winning entry of the writing contest.

2006-01-01 [shotokan_gal]: Please add your suggestions to the end of the list in future deathday. Competitions are generally made on wikis - if you want to make one yourself you can look at the one's on art contests and writing contests by individual members.

2006-01-30 [Zab]: Maybe it could be done with any computer-art programme, to get more participants. :) But all members don't have a camera either, so then photograph competitions would make them feeling left out..;)

2006-04-11 [Melocrie]: Well, you could enter youself, but normally people don't do that. You just start a wiki saying: Poetry Contest ,and then you tell the theme, rules etc. Divide them with a bar and let people enter their poems. Set a deadline, after that, create a poll and let people vote for the winner.
2006-04-11 [Dark Paladin]: sounds pretty simple. i guess i could hold my poems out for a lil while longer. kewl, mayb ill try it out. and another thing, how long are deadlines usually set. a month or just a few wks or what? and like what kind of themes? do i just pick a random topic and let poets use it to their fansy or what?
2006-04-11 [Melocrie]: I had my deadline set for 20 contestants. I think that's better if you do a poetry contest. That way you won't get too many entries, since it's a lot of hard work.
2006-04-11 [shotokan_gal]: Somewhere for you to go if you want to host such a contest would be writing contests. There's guidelines about how to set one up I believe, as well examples of others, and being somewhere to advertise. If you want to know how to make a wiki page to host a contest try How do I make a wiki page.
2006-04-11 [shotokan_gal]: And if you have an idea for an official contest feel free to add it to the page (which I'm hopefully going to organise soon). But that doesn't mean you shouldn't host your own contests too if you like the idea and it doesn't look like it's going to happen with us just yet.

2006-07-14 [shotokan_gal]: ANNOUNCEMENT: Some suggestions have been removed, have comments by them, or were edited to be more concise. Contests removed include those asking for a writing contest without specifying any theme, and the water fountain design contest as it appears to have already started independant of the council. Others with comments by them may be removed in time if the suggestions are not improved.

2006-10-06 [iippo]: They'd be easier to spot there, but for people who are not fluent with the wiki there's a bigger chance of messing up when the new addments are on the top, than when they are at the bottom.

Unless "adding to the top" would mean that newest suggestions are above the other new suggestions.

I am a crew intern but I don't want to tread on any toes and only want to help where it would be useful ^_^

2009-03-12 [Lady of Lore]: I think cooking in general is both science and art since it not only follows exact steps, ratios, etc but the presentation of the food can be an art. Like a good salad having lots of colors and arranged pretty in the bowl can be artistic ^_^
2009-03-13 [windowframe]: I'm no convinced b the 'exact' steps part. Very few recipes will be ruined if it tells you to put in 100 grams of sugar, and you put in 120, or 130. And how much salt, spice, etc. to add - adding more or less than the recipe says doesn't necessarily ruin it, just makes it taste different, which is a subjective thing, and implies it's not a science. (If it were a science the cake wouldn't rise unless you put exaaaactly the right amount of everything in).
2009-03-14 [Linderel]: But it can be a total flop if you put in too much or too little liquid, flour, or butter, for example. There's still a balance to keep, there. :P But yes. It's not entirely exact, I agree there.
